Neway Rail Consulting and Support Services
General Track Inspection
We can perform:
Detailed Inspection of Switches and Crossings
Dual Rail Corrugation Recording and Analysis
- Track dilapidation surveys
- Weld Inspection
- Track Patrolling
Because of their moving parts, turnouts are considered as the weak points of the track. Neway specialists are able to identify immediate actions and essential maintenance to be undertaken at switches to reduce the risk of derailment.
Derailment hazards particularly associated with switch and stock rail wear and damage, together with the necessary remedial measures. Capturing damage such as lipping, side wear, top of switch damage and wear. At cast manganese crossings, Neway Rail support clients to identify defects and wear.
Identify where arc weld repairs can be completed with required minimum actions. Crossing inspections according to a seven-point check list.
Rail Grinding
We can perform:
- Grinding to Control Rail Corrugation
- Grinding to remove common rail defects such as RCF, wheelburns, squats and lipping
- Grinding of switch and crossings
Actions from detailed inspection of switches make it necessary for grinding of switch blades to remove P8 failure and lipping and on the crown of the rail to remove defects such as light RCF, squats and wheel burns.
Rail corrugation can be removed by our team of grinding specialists. The rails can then be inspected by BI CAT recording trolley to identify if in tolerance with EN13231-5 for acceptance of works, rail reprofiling standard.
Rail Welding
We can perform:
- Repair Welding Switch Blades
- Repair Welding Plain Line track
- Repair Welding Cast Manganese Crossings
Actions from detailed inspection of cast crossings make it necessary to repair defects such as lipping, squats and wheel burns. At the cast crossing Vee, the nose can become distorted and heavily worn at wheel contact areas over time. Neway specialists are trained to effectively repair damaged areas, by build the nose back to design and with tolerance.
Build Up Welding
We can perform:
- Plain Line Track
- Switches and Crossings
Rail surfaces can become heavily head worn, where the rails constructed are soft. Head wear is monitored by Neway NDT specialists to make sure it does not pass acceptable limits. Rails surfaces are built up and ground off, to return to design level and within tolerance.
Rail Refurbishment
We can perform:
- Switch Blades
- Cast Manganese Crossings
- Turnout Closure Rails
Expensive track assets such as turnout components can become head worn over time, not possible to repair in track due to possession times or due to the number of repairs required.
Replacing crossings and switches for new involves fabrication and long lead times for delivery to the Middle East. Neway Rail welding and grinding specialists can refurbish the components in our dedicated workshop, at a fraction of the price for new replacements.
Track Alignment Survey
We can perform:
- Validating existing Benchmarks by GPS base station
- Plain Line track alignment survey by Total Station
- Switches and Crossings alignment survey by Total Station
The Middle East is going through major changes as more countries join the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) network. To construct new rail networks, survey controls are designed and installed which tie into existing Municipality controls.
Neway Rail team of survey specialists are available to install track monuments at 200m intervals along the embankment to ensure tracks can be tamped and returned to design position during the life of the rail network. These survey controls are constructed next to primary and secondary controls to ensure position validity and accuracy is maintained. All part of an accurate survey network.
Rig Crossings
Track Non-Destructive Testing
We can perform:
- Rail Depth Measurements to determine Head Loss
- Ultrasonic Pedestrian Testing at Turnouts
- Ultrasonic Testing of Plain Line Tracks using Towed Array
- Ultrasonic Testing of Aluminothermic Welds
- Eddy Current Testing for RCF depth
- VERSE Testing
Ultrasonic NDT CATER towed array. Test switches and crossings using approved ultrasonic procedures and can detect the presence of horizontal cracks, bolt hole cracks and transverse cracks in the rail head to prevent broken rails.
Welds to BS EN 14730-1:2006+A1:2010.
Rohmann Draisine WPG D340 RCF crack detection from as small as 0.2mm
Aluminothermic Welding
We can perform:
- High speed, heavy haul rails, using Pandrol PLA process for 60E1 and 60E2 profiles.R260 to R350 grade,R350 to R350 grade,R260 to R260 grade.
- Tram rails, using Elektro-thermit process for 54G2 profile.R200 to R200 grade,R200 to R260 grade,R260 to R340GHT grade,R200 to R340GHT grade,R340GHT to T340GHT grade.
Hot Weather Works
We can perform:
- Stressing Plain Line
- Stressing S&C
- Hot Weather Risk Assessments
Specialist plain line and S&C competent staff available to destress rails to an approved Stress-Free Temperature (SFT).
Stresing level 1 – restoration,
Stressing level 2 – Plain line with tensors and natural,
Stressing level 3 – Stressing through S&C.
Track Geometry Repairs
We can perform:
- Track Geometry Repairs in Plain Line track
- Track Geometry Repairs in Turnouts
Repair track geometry faults to approved track standards for line and level correction. Measured shovel packing (MSP) of rails to correct poor alignment. Fettling through turnouts by replacing screws with maintenance screws and installing Vortok coils for timber layouts.
